Best Of

Opis

Best OfOpis:The title The Best of is not quite the whole truth this the only best of the Cowboy Junkies' first four albums, made before they departed RCA. This is an extremely minor quibble--though the records released subsequent to these tracks have had their moments, most of what caused so many to fall so hard for this extraordinary Canadian group was on the RCA albums. This compilation serves as both a fitting testament and a sterling introduction for the unfortunate uninitiated. The Cowboy Junkies' greatest strength--aside from the instrumental virtuosity of Michael Timmins and the haunting power of Margo Timmins' voice--has always been their total refusal to take country music anything other than seriously. Their cover versions--Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane", Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"--are delivered with utter solemnity, and their own songs, whether devotionals such as "Misguided Angel", or character-led vignettes such as "Sun Comes Up", "It's Tuesday Morning" and "Southern Rain" are unsparingly detailed, Margo Timmins chronicling the minutiae of heartbreak with a forensic lack of mercy. This is a fabulous collection by a band who remain Canada's greatest gift to civilisation. --Andrew MuellerProduct descriptionInternational products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
