Four Blokes

Opis

Four BlokesOpis:Product Description Recorded live in studio following two ecstatically received concerts at Cafe Oto in London the legendary South African drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo demonstrates just why it is he's in the same class as Billy Higgins, Elvin Jones, Sunny Murray and Ed Blackwell in a generation of drummers who devised means of negotiating the new rhythmic freedoms of the 60s. This working quartet, featuring three of London's finest musicians, could well prove to be Louis' best band in a long career. As journalist Richard Williams says "...the listener is overwhelmed by the feeling that there might be no end to the beauty conjured by this extraordinary combination of musicians." Say no more. The album also marks the 40th anniversary of Ogun Records, an independent beacon to new music through dark times.

Review In an instant, 16 minutes have passed and centuries of African suffering and resistance have been set down. The album title theme, simply 4 Blokes, is a sheer exposition of fourfold artistry led by Hawkins s percussive keys and Yarde s ceaseless breath, and the Dudu Pukwana tune Angel-Nomali becomes the life-blood of another altoist from a succeeding generation as Yarde blows into its soul above the huge sound of Moholo-Moholo s drums and Edwards s resonating undertow. The final and beautiful reprise of Something Gentle which closes the album is another reminder to its listeners that, according to Yoruba belief, Ogun was a smithy-deity, who from the very heat of his forge presided over the inspiration of creativity and truth. Time after time over 40 years his records have done the same. --Morning Star'Louis Moholo-Moholo s recent sessions for the Ogun label have not only shown that the great South African drummer s fires still burn brightly at 74, but also that he s making some of the great jazz of his time... 4 Blokes is a casual title for a set of astonishing intensity...' --John Fordham, The Guardian, 8 January 2015Autor:Louis Moholo-Moholo QuartetNośnik:Audio CDPłyt:Język: Data wydania: 2016-08-12Waga: 0.06 gramWysokość: 0.2 cmSzerokość: 5.1 cmDługość: 5.1 cmUWAGA: Kupując produkt na tej aukcji zgadzasz się na wydłużony termin realizacji wysyłki (10-14 dni roboczych).
