Are We An Electric Generation

Are We An Electric GenerationOpis:One ought to think, what challenging title. But these are challenging times we live in. Taken from the album-opener ""5th Avenue"", Matija raise a simple and obvious but important question with their album title ""Are We An Electric Generation Falling Apart?"". The digital revolution is standing at the crossroads and the following years are going to be historically significant. Is that, what is supposed to be held together by the world-wide-web, smartphone and social media actually now falling to pieces? Ten titles have made it on ""Electric Generation"". Produced by Johann Scheerer (Peter Doherty e.g.) it was recorded in their label's in-house studio at Clouds Hill. Which is packed with analog equipment - a treasure island for musicians and production nerds. This already is a contrast to what is happening in the pop world in 2017, where only a few established artist can afford the luxury of a good recording studio and the rest have to consider themselves satisfied with music videos recorded by mobile phones and where it is essential to post some shallow and catchy stuff on social media each day. ""Electric Generation"" is a true analog tape recording, capturing the band playing live, which was later mixed with analog and digital equipment. It is the best of both worlds but it was always the sound aesthetic in mind, which was dictating the equipment, not the other way around. Musically, the debut album with the new band name has turned out to be pretty smashing. Multifarious and spirited, Pop-music with all sorts of colors and moods, be it lyrically and musically. Ranging from thoughtful songs (""Hello My Creator"") to blithe arrangements which sometimes highlight the guitar (""White Socks""), then put synthesizer sounds in the foreground (""Modern Girl"") or songs like ""Justify Your Love"" which are carried by the vocals. Those who record live have to play well and tightly together and Matija (previously known as The Capitols) have proven it for years on stages all across Europe and now they have proven it again on this album. Yet another sharp contrast. Who sits down and makes the effort to write a good album nowadays? Who works on details for ages, in a time where compilations and audio drama sells more units than albums? Those who have the chance to spend time with the band quickly realize that Matija are a sworn group. Four brilliant musicians with a blind understanding for each other, on and off stage. Insider jokes, teasing and a lot of laughing - fun at the thing with the right amount of seriousness that is essential to make it in the professional music industry. On stage led by the blond singer, whose name has now become the band's name, Matija remains a democratic band with influences coming from Slovakia (Jan), Slovenia (Matija), the USA (Johann) and Jordan (Sami). The quartet that grew up together and attended the same school, now represent the globalized youth and give those at the beginning of their twenties a voice with their album ""Are We An Electric Generation Falling Apart?"" To return to the question that was raised at the beginning: No one in Matija believes that this young generation is falling apart. Rather the opposite; these young people of today are going to be the ones that hold it all together because they are the ones who have learnt the relaxed handling with the internet and digital equipment. And therefore this generation of digital natives is a crucial step ahead of the post-war generation - the baby boomers, the generation X and Y and as they are all called.
