Rough EdgesOpis:Rough Edges' is the debut album of London based guitarist Alex Goulden. During the late 1980s and 1990's, Goulden gigged as a sideman in a variety of soul, funk and acid jazz groups. With his own Hammond organ drenched quintet, The Pod, he rode the wave of popularity enjoyed by the live UK acid jazz artists, headlining shows and supporting acts such as Geno Washington, The Brand New Heavies and the James Taylor Quartet. At the request of TV presenter Jason Bradbury, he also put together a live house band to appear on Jason's entertainment TV show, Telewest. Stylistically, Goulden combines the tone and attack of a blues guitarist and the musical sophistication of a jazz guitarist. Although nominally led by the guitarist, saxophone players Rob Skeet and Jamie Anderson and pianists Mike Gorman and Simon Colam are given equal room to improvise on this collection of tracks which alternate between funk and straight ahead jazz.
