Walter Becker & Donald Fagen -Opis:As the genius duo behind Steely Dan, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen stretched the parameters of pop and rock music with a sophisticated approach to song-writing which has yet to be matched. Marrying that with a fastidious studio perfectionism, their entire discography makes Steely Dan the connoisseurs’ choice when it comes to picking the greatest band of the 70s. Recorded across the years 1968 to 1971, the songs on Walter Becker & Donald Fagen capture the pair finding their way towards their trademark soft-rock-jazz-fusion sound. With its boogie-tinged piano, Brain Tap Shuffle is a typically wry take on the tradition of dance-craze songs; Come Back Baby sees Becker and Fagen put their smooth harmony vocals to early good use; and Mock Turtle Song is the drive-time exotica hit that never was. Re-recorded for Steely Dan’s debut album, Can’t Buy A Thrill, Brooklyn offers fans a fascinating before/after glimpse of two masters on the brink of their game-changing breakthrough.
