Rarum: Selected RecordingsOpis:Product DescriptionMore than 30 musicians closely associated with ECM over a long period were invited to participate in the rarum anthology project. One major difference between rarum and other jazz samplers is the musicians' active participation at every step of the way: choosing and sequencing material, writing liner notes, often supplying photos from private collections. Bobo Stenson's anthology pools an impressive line-up--with Don Cherry, Charles Lloyd, Tomasz Stanko, Jan Garbarek and others--and most impressive playing. It's only relatively recently that the press and the public have become aware of what an exceptional pianist Stenson is, but the musicians have always known. As has the label which first recorded Stenson in 1971, and has encouraged his artistic growth. ReviewRanging from 1971 to 1999, and presenting pianist Bobo Stenson in an informative and attractive variety of contexts, this Selected Recordings is one of the finest of the first batch of ECM's sumptuously packaged :rarum series. Throughout the 13 tracks, Stenson--the most important Swedish jazz pianist since the legendary Jan Johansson, and a musician equally at home with harmonically rich, modally open or folk-inflected material--exhibits a lovely touch, a great sense of dynamics and a capacity for both the freshest of improvised phrases and a well-honed historical awareness. The last-named quality is most evident in a lovely reading of Ellington's "Reflections In D", while several tracks from the highly rated 1999 trio album Serenity (with bassist Anders Jormin and drummer Jon Christensen) evince Stenson's particular ability to spin the most lyrical of ideas across the sort of energising rhythmic framework which manages to be both quietly yet purposefully busy and spaciously reflective at the same time. Elsewhere, we get to hear Stenson with Don Cherry, Charles Lloyd and Tomasz Stanko, as well as drummers Billy Hart and Tony Oxley. For many, the highlights of this excellent selection will be "Witchi-Tai-To" and "Svevende/Floating"--striking examples of the sort of cross-rhythmic ideas which fired Stenson's work with Norwegian Jan Garbarek in the great quartet which they co-led in the mid-1970s--but in truth there's not a single dull moment here. --Michael TuckerReviewA good survey of Stenson's work for the label...including dates with other leaders...also touching on some of his finest performances. -- The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings, (Richard Cook & Brian Morton), 2006Autor:Bobo StensonNośnik:Audio CDPłyt:Język: English: Published; English: Original Language; EnglishData wydania: 2008-12-19Waga: 0.18 gramWysokość: 0.6 cmSzerokość: 5 cmDługość: 5.6 cmBoBo Stenson- Selected Recordings EMCUWAGA: Kupując produkt na tej aukcji zgadzasz się na wydłużony termin realizacji wysyłki (10-14 dni roboczych).
